VESA to Preview New Mobility DisplayPort at International CES 2012

The Video Electronics Standards Association will also Showcase Advanced DisplayPort Features that Deliver an Unmatched PC Experience

NEWARK, Calif., January 5, 2012 – The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) will preview the proposed Mobility DisplayPort (MYDP) standard at next week’s International CES 2012, in Las Vegas.  MYDP is designed to enable content streaming from mobile devices to large displays, allowing consumers to carry their content anywhere and view it on screens of any size. VESA will also showcase new and prototype products that include the advanced features of DisplayPort® Version 1.2, including High Bit Rate 2 (HBR2), multi-stream (MST), panel self-refresh, and support for 4k x 2k resolutions.

“Consumer connectivity and demand for content across new devices continues to increase.  VESA understands that with this increased demand comes an expectation for superior, High Definition graphic performance,” said Bill Lempesis, executive director at VESA.  “We are making high-quality content on any device possible with the development of MYDP.  And today we are offering exciting new DisplayPort v1.2 features on devices that are shipping.”

As consumers look for more immersive audio-visual computing experiences, higher resolutions and more seamless graphic performance become critical. Under development for more than five years, DisplayPort is the only interface to enable multi-display setups through a single connector and support for 4k x 2k resolution at a full 60Hz frame rate with 24 bits-per-pixel color.  DisplayPort delivers the highest display performance through support for industry-leading color depth and refresh rates; a maximum data transfer rate of 21.6Gbps (Gigabits-per-second); Full High-Definition (HD) 3D capability; and support for HD audio formats.

According to industry analyst firm NPD In-Stat, adoption of the advanced features offered by the DisplayPort v1.2 Standard will grow by more than 100 percent annually through 2014, with more than 400 million units expected to be shipped in 2015. DisplayPort interfaces that include new DisplayPort v1.2 advanced features are being integrated into many of the industry’s leading PCs, laptops, graphics cards and displays in 2012.  This will enable consumers to experience their PCs in new ways, including the use of multiple displays through a single connector, use of higher resolutions and color depths, and 3D.

VESA technology demonstrations will take place at the DisplayPort booth #21654 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC),  January 10 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.,  January 11 – 12 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and January 13 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
