LG Expands UltraGear Display Family With 27 And 38-Inch 144Hz G-SYNC Curved Gaming Panels
LG is showing off its expanded UltraGear gaming monitor lineup at IFA 2019 in Berlin. There are three new models, including two 27-inch panels and a larger 37.5-inch model, each with an IPS screen, ultra-fast 1ms GtG (gray-to-gray) response time, and NVIDIA G-SYNC support to keep the action smooth and free of unwanted tearing.
The fastest of the three is the UltraGear 27GN750. It's a 27-inch display with a 1920x1080 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, making it ideally suited for esports gaming. Of course, you'll need a burly graphics card to take advantage of an ultra-high refresh rate, but for the most part, esports titles are less demanding than other types of games.
Brightness is rated at 400 nits (typical), with HDR10 support thrown into the mix. LG is also claiming 99 percent coverage of the sRGB color space, meaning it offers a wide color gamut and, in theory, should result in high image quality (they don't always go hand-in-hand, so we'll wait until we've had a chance to see one in person before judging the display).
The other 27-inch model is the UltraGear 27GL850. This one trades a faster refresh rate for a higher resolution—it's a QHD panel (2560x1440) with a not-quite-as-fast (but still fast overall) 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports HDR10 content, albeit the typical brightness is lower, at 350 nits. Unfortunately, it's not clear if either monitor can hit a higher peak brightness.
Image quality is even better on this model, presumably, with LG touting 135 percent coverage of the sRGB color space, and 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. In theory, this one should be suitable for at least prosumer-level photography, though we haven't spied our eyes on this one either.
For those who want to go big and wide, the UltraGear 38GL950G is a 37-inch display with a WQHD+ (3840x1600) nano-IPS panel and 175Hz refresh rate (overclocked). It has a 450 nits brightness rating, and is the sole model out of the three to be DisplayHDR 400 certified. As for image quality, the color gamut ratings are the same as the UltraGear 27GL850.
Connectivity on both of the 27-inch models consist of two HDMI inputs, a single DisplayPort input, and two USB 3.0 downstream ports (along with a single upstream port). The 37.5-inch offers a similar selection, except it has one HDMI port instead of two.
